the melia azedarach is a deciduous tree belonging to the meliaceae family. also known by the name rose tree or tree of paternostri, has fast growth. It is very ramified and expanded, with globose foliage and grey bark crossed by slits. the penned foliage is of vivid green color, consisting of finely dense elliptical foliage. from spring to early summer produces starry lilac flowers grouped in fragrant cloths from arcuates to pendants. follow the spherical yellow fruits that persist on the plant until the next spring making it very decorative in winter. prefers a well drained soil, fertile and slightly acidic, in full sun position. fear the cold winds. has repellent properties for all insects.
