description

thephragmites australis, also known as swamp straw, is a perennial aquatic plant belonging to the poaceae family, with straight stems and thin but robust. Its leaves are rigid, linear and pointed, green-grey. at the end of summer produces braids gathered in feathered red-brown cloth. this plant may have an infesting attitude, but it is very used to edge large water mirrors and is used for phytodepuration plants.

Size: under conditions of fertility, its stems can to reach a height also of about 4/6 m. its leaves, instead, can reach a length of about 60 cm.

flower: in the period from August to October, the plant blooms producing woolly and brown/reddish cloths. These inflorescences create plums that rise also of 50 cm.

use:is used for edges of large water mirrors, consolidation and shelter for aquatic game. thanks to its properties is very used for phytodepuration plants.

origin

thephragmites australis is native to eurasia, but it has spread throughout the world, also in Italy.
